This research started from the facts found in Bukittinggi that the number of career womens more than housewives and some housewives wanted part time jobs. This condition implies that the electoral role as career women will be more give happiness. Therefore the researchers are interested to see any difference or not in subjective well-being among career mothers with housewives in Bukittinggi. The hypothesis of this research is that there are differences in subjective well-being among career mothers with housewives in Bukittinggi.
This research design is descriptive quantitative, descriptive research which is a type of research that aims to describe the systematic, factual, and accurate statement of the facts and nature of a particular population, or try to describe the phenomenon with detail. The population at this study are all mothers in Bukitinggi, who have career and a housewives. Mother who have career or a housewives aged 18 to 40 years. Sampling technique used is the sample area technique, in which sampling is done by dividing large areas into smaller areas so that the obtained sample of 70 mothers consist of 35 working mothers and 35 housewives. The data was collected by using a scale of subjective well-being are formulated based on Likert scale of 28 item. Data obtained anayized by different test using SPSS 12.0.
From the research results obtained that the mean subjective well-being for career mothers 106.23 and for the housewives 101.20. The results of the analysis of different tests available for 8.751, significant at level 0.01. With these findings accepted working hypothesis in which there are differences in subjective well-being is significant between a career mothers with housewives in Bukittinggi. After the study is expected to be a career woman who did not show more negative affects such as by using vacation time or leisure so that no saturation occurs in the works. Then the housewives does not assess a life satisfaction only from the material or work but also look at domestic life lived every day as a matter of cause satisfaction.
